WINNING WAYS – RED RIVER SOUTH

Weather Conditions:

Low – 63

High – 78

Cloudy

Wind – South 5-8mph

Our 7th tournament of the year took place at Red River South Marina in Bossier City and man did we have some crazy weather. Who would have ever thought we would have 65 to 75 degree weather in July!!! I was expecting water temps to be in the upper 80s to low 90s. Instead we had 75 degree water and clouds and lots of recent rainfall. The recent rain made the river muddy and fish in some kind of crazy funk. You would think we clouds and cooler weather the fish would be jumping in the boat. Well for the most part that wasn’t the case. Last year at this tournament we had the most limits brought to the scales for a SBBC tournament. This year we had only 6 limits.

But ever think that someone won’t figure the fish out. The man that was able to figure the fish out better than everyone else was new member Keith King. Keith brought 5 fish to the scales weighing 12.23lbs. Keith fished in one of the many backwaters located in Pool 5. He caught all his fish on frogs throughout the day in one small area. He worked that place over for all his fish. This was Keith’s first win in the SBBC. Second place went to last month’s winner Jason Brown. Jason caught 5 fish weighing 11.96lbs anchored by his 5.01lb beast. This fish also got him big fish of the tournament. Jason stayed in the main river flipping reeds with a beaver style bait. He said he caught around 30 fish today. That’s three good tournaments in a row for Jason. He is on a roll. Coming in 3rd was Josh Sikes with 11.32lbs. Josh’s big fish was 4.32lbs. Josh did a little bit of junk fishing throughout the day. He caught fish in 3 different backwater areas on a variety of baits. He caught around 10 keepers. Rounding out the top 5 were Michael Watts with 10.72lbs & Brad Andes with 9.89lbs.  Congrates to Keith on his first win!!

In the end, we had our lowest turnout of the year with 19 anglers. We had as many anglers this year as we did 5 fish limits last year. Not sure if it was due to the rainy weather or the distance. Six limits and a total of 52 fish were brought to the scales. The average weight of each fish was 2.05lbs.

We are down to only 2 tournaments left and the angler of the year race is very close. The top 3 guys are only separated by 5 points once the 2 lowest tournaments are dropped!! Also the last couple of Best 6 spots are up for grabs as well! Should make for a very interesting end of season! The next tournament will take place at Toledo Bend. This tournament will be a night event. Hope to see everyone there. Below is the link of the video for Red River South. It isn’t very great due to the drizzling rain that morning and my battery went dead before I was able to catch many fish!!
