The 2014 season is beginning wine down with the 8th tournament of the year now complete.  The 8th tournament took place at Toledo Bend Reservoir for a little night fishing. This was our 2nd trip to Toledo Bend this season. The first trip back in March we had a record breaking fish and sacks of fish brought to the scales. With this tournament being a night tournament there was a great possibility of those records falling, but the bite was much tougher than expected. Night fishing will either make you or break you. Well the tournament definitely made one angler’s season. That angler was President Curtis Paul.

Curt weighed in a very impressive 17.19lbs anchored by his 6.34lb magnum toad!!! Curt was able to catch his fish on a couple of different baits. His big fish came on a football headed jig before dark. He also caught a couple of more keepers during the evening on a deep diving crankbait in 15-25ft of water. Once darkness came, all of fish came on either a 10in worm or finesse worm in 8-15ft of water. Another key to Curt’s victory was to fish in the back of my boat. Nothing like getting your trail kicked from the man the back!!!!! Second place went to Curt Chaudoir with 12.19lbs with only 2 FISH!!! Curt’s big fish was 7.6lbs. That’s 2 very impressive fish!! Man the 2 Curts but a whopping on us!!! Wallace Woodson was able to bring in the 3rd biggest sack weighing in at 11.99lbs. Wallace caught all his fish around deeper docks on a brush hog. Finishing out the top 5 was Josh Sikes with 7.98lbs and guest Will Carstens with 7.31lbs. Josh’s 7.98lbs came from one fish which ended up being big fish of the tournament. This fish was caught in 35ft of water on a deep diving crankbait. Congrates to Curt Paul on his 2nd SBBC win.

Both angler turnout and fish were tough to come by this past weekend which was kind of expected being a night tournament. But what fish were caught were of higher quality. A total of 25 fish were caught. Only 2 limits were brought to the scales. The average weight per fish was 3.27lbs. That’s the highest average we have ever had.

With only one tournament left, the AOY race has come down to just 6 points. After dropping 2 tournaments Josh Sikes leads Wallace Woodson by 4 points and Kevin Woodson by 6 points. Should make for a shootout at Ben Routh for the AOY title!! There is also a battle going on for the last spot into the Top 6. This should keep everything interesting till the last moment. We had to change the site of the last tournament due to low water issues at Saline. At the last tournament it was voted to change the location to the Ben Routh Landing in Pool 1 of the Red River. If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me. Also our jerseys have come in so I will hand them out at the last tournament. Hope to see everyone there.
